The Project Troika: Managing Business Value and Architecture
Recently I wrote about a term called the "Troika" when balancing between the prioritization of business value and architectural significance. Troika is a russian word which means a collection of three of any kind, such as a three legged stool or a carriage pulled by three horses. When I use it in software development it refers to the three 'legs' of the software development team, Project Management, Business Analysis and Architecture. Any exercise involving planning or prioritizing should have representives from these three areas to ensure a comprehensive view of requirements, architecture and the project management necessary to provision these outcome required from the first two. Troika representatives can be very effective in estimating effort too particularly if applying a Wideband Delphi approach or Planning Poker techniques.
